The Art Gallery of New South Wales is located within a short walking distance from Sydney's Centre Business District.
Art Gallery of NSW is a comprehensive collection of works of Australian and European artists, located amidst green (spiritual) pastures of The Domain. The largest gallery in the city it also includes the outstanding Yiribana Gallery - an exhibition of Australian Aboriginal art. There are permanent Australian, European, Asian, contemporary and photographic galleries. Excellent collection of contemporary Australian artists, Australia's best loved works of art including key works of the 'Heidelberg School'. Modern Australian artists include Lloyd Rees, Margaret Olley, Margaret Preston and Brett Whiteley.
Combined with ongoing performances and guided tours, Yiribana offers an excellent introduction to the indigenous art and culture of this country. The Asian Gallery features art works of north and south-east Asia, China, Korea, Japan and India from prehistoric to modern times. The European collection includes an extensive collection of Victorian and Edwardian paintings as well as significant works from the French impressionists and 20th century modernists. You will find here also a cafe with cool views on Eastern Sydney, offering you relaxation after sight seeing. Numerous changing exhibitions of a diverse variety, occasional shows and concerts played in harmony with surrounding art make it regular destination for locals and a must for visitors.
